Decker, who had considered herself to be a country artist in the past was astonished to learn that her album wasn't promoted and produced with a focus on the mass market. Decker had to work hard to get control over her music released after the two previous singles were not well received. Decker's sophomore studio album was released with the name Daughter of a Gypsy, or Sweet American Dreams. Mercury put it on hold and three of her country singles performed poorly. The album was later canceled.
