Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's military parents resided in Louisiana at the age of nine years old. The singer won an audition competition by singing an original rendition of Patsy's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker's family relocated from Louisiana to Georgia in the summer of 1995. When she started writing songs, she made frequent visits to Nashville and visited music companies and record labels in the hope of securing a contract. At the age of 17, she was spotted by the representative from independent label Big Yellow Dog Records who began shopping her songs to various labels and artists. The demos of Decker were listened to by Mercury Records president David Massey and then handed over to L.A. Reid of Island/Def Jam Group affiliated record label L.A. Reid was able to sign Decker to a contract. Jessie James, her moniker for her album that she dropped with that title in August 2009, was a self-titled. Jessie James was reasonably successful and also featured Wanted the single which climbed the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker was a country singer who believed herself to be a traditional country artist in the past was astonished to learn that her album was not marketed and produced with a focus on a mainstream audience. Decker was adamant with the label to get more control over her music after two of her singles fell. Her next release, Boys in the Summer, was more country oriented. Decker's sophomore album, which was announced under the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and after three singles fared poorly in the charts of country music. Decker was released from her contract.
